What does My Permisisons do?
Permissions control who can see any part of your skillsbook. The menu box on the left list all the tabs in your skillsbook. When you click on one a box appears that lists the permission options that are available to you. There are three options: Private means the information under the chosen tab is only viewable by you. Group means the information under the chosen tab is only viewable by the groups you choose. Public means information under the chosen tab is viewable by any skillsbook browser.
How do I locate a training provider or Registered Training Organisation
Under the skillsbook tools menu, choose 'search training provider'.  Enter your address and then the distance from your home that you wish to search on. Then click search.
What is the IP address for skillsbook

I'm having trouble reading loaded files
The file reader accepts the following file formats zip|rar|pdf|txt|doc|xls|ppt If you upload a file that is not one of these formats it is a good idea to add the extension to the file name so it is recognised.  So for example if you ahve a word processing document called 'personal', when you upload it, call it 'personal.doc'
Comments: I also have a couple of files in my folder and both open without problem I'll have a look at your profile and try to see what's going on
How do I use Skillsbook to profile the competency requirements of a job?

First of all you need to be registered.  This will give you access to the Competency Navigator (skills profiling tool).

When registered, under 'Skillsbook' go to 'my account' and click the Competency Navigator tab.

Then click the 'Start Competency Navigator' button.

From here the idea is to fill up a shopping basket of skills that the job requires.

There are three options or ways of doing this.  You can use any combination of the three.

  1. Qualifications:  If you know that most of the competencies required for a job are listed in a specific qualification you can go directly to it and then add or delete from the list.
  2. Occupations:  A general ist of all occupations that are covered by vocational qualifications is provided so you can add or delete from the given list.
  3. Skills sets:  If you are unsure of either of the above and know the field of work that the job entails, then you can search this list and then add items to the skills basket.

Once you've explored one of the above and added appropriate units, click save, then you can view your skills basket by clicking the shopping trolley icon.  If this list is incomplete repeat the process using a different search route, if this 'basket' is too full then simply check the box against items you wish to delete.

When you're finished, click finish.  The competency profile of the job will be shown in your basket (Units in my basket) as will the best match qualifications and best match occupations.

What happens if I publish my Skillsbook to an employer?

When you publish your Skillsbook to be viewable by an employer several things can happen:

  1. If your Competency Navigator skills profile matches what the employer is looking for, the employer will be notified that there is a match.
  2. The employer can then message you with questions or to arrange an interview.  You may, for example, wish to show an employer your e portfolio.
How do I register for a workshop?

Click on a workshop event you are interested in.

Under the registration options, check the 'Event Registration' box and enter the number of attendees.  Then simply click 'Register'.

How do I join a forum?

Registered users of Skillsbook can join any forum, search and read content, post replies and even create new forums.  Simply navigate to 'forums' and use the tabs to view, post or reply to a discussion.

Non registered users can read content but cannot participate in discussions.

How does private messaging work?

Private messaging service (PMS) works in the same way as email.

It is called 'private' because you can only send messages to other Skillsbook registered users.

You simply need to know the other users 'username' and you can send them a PMS.

How do I set up a Skillsbook account?

Click in the 'register' link and fill in the registration form.

You will then receive an email response confirming that you wish to create a skillsbook account.

The email will contain an 'activation' link that simply needs to be clicked to confirm your registration.

Then you simply need to log in.  Everything will be automatically set up for you to start building your e portfolio, identifying your skills, communicating with your friends.
